Does Caruso Need More Help?

Back again with more Covid 19 content.

I originally intended to put out this article when the NBA was still a thing. But now, here we are, reminiscing about a time when sports were actually being played. And these sports networks are so desperate for content. Last night ESPN was airing Game 7 of the 2016 NBA finals, which to be fair, was a pretty epic game. At the same time though, it’s hilarious to see these networks struggling to come up with any sort of entertainment. You can tell that ESPN and Fox executives were not hired for their creativity. And don’t get me started with all of the sports instagram accounts. House of Highlights might actually cease to exist before coronavirus is over.

But anyways, today I’m talking about the Lakers. More specifically, the greatness of Alex Caruso.

Here’s a real stat for you: Caruso has the best net rating of any Laker player who has stepped on the court this year. What does that mean? It means that the Lakers are beating their opponent by 12.2 points per 100 possessions when he’s on the floor. Yet somehow LeBron is the one with a shoe deal.

Here’s a not-so-fun fact: Not just in the NBA, but in life, everybody likes to generalize or stereotype other people. And so when you see a pale white dude with a balding head, you don’t expect him to be the best player on the team. But as it turns out, Alex Caruso is the best player the Lakers have. And that Net rating stat I just rattled off is enough proof for you.

Looking back, it’s insane to me how the Bald Eagle wasn’t getting more minutes last year. After Bron hurt his dick against the Warriors, you just knew that the Lakers were going to fall apart. Obviously they had the young core of Lonzo, Kuz, Ingram and Josh Hart, but basically all of that chemistry got thrown out the window when Bron tried to trade their asses mid season. Those guys knew they had nothing to play for.

I like Lonzo and Ingram, obviously this year they were thriving in a new system with Zion. But the team needed Caruso last year. And I think part of the reason Luke Walton got fired is because he couldn’t recognize the talent of Caruso until like the last week of the season.

In the last six games of the 18-19 season, Caruso averaged 18.2 points, 8 assists, and nearly 2 steals a game. More importantly, he had some vicious dunks that shocked the entire NBA world.

I don’t know if this is racist, but usually when we see a balding white guy, we don’t necessarily think, “Oh that’s a basketball god.” Yet here we are, watching Alex Caruso dominate the game, and he’s a big reason why the Lakers have the first place spot in the West. If this whole coronavirus thing passes, I really hope the Pelinka can get this man some help on the court. He’s worked his ass off to get to this point, and I need to see him get that first ring soon.

As for other Lakers players, LeBron and AD are good, and I think they can serve as solid role guys for Caruso to work around. Just stay out of his way.
